Meet Emily

My family has called Gig Harbor home for over 50 years. We've stuck around because it’s not just beautiful - it’s the people who make this place truly special. It's an honor to serve our community on the Gig Harbor City Council.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Washington. I have worked for (and with) communities my entire career. First as a social worker in human services, and then working in public policy for the last several years.
I have dedicated the last decade of my career to helping those most in need. I was a social worker for many years, working with clients who were experiencing gender-based violence, poverty, behavioral health issues, and/or homelessness. In the last few years, I shifted to policy work and have been working on state and federal legislative issues.
After a few years working in the state legislature, I was the policy director for a domestic violence coalition, representing survivors in Olympia to advocate for legal system reforms, economic stability, and crime victims services funding. As a survivor myself, it is one of my proudest accomplishments to date.
Recently, I joined a state agency to support public policy efforts around community safety, local government infrastructure, public safety, economic development, and housing & homelessness.
In all of my work over the years, I have prioritized uplifting the voices of those most impacted by policy decisions.
All of this experience, combined with my ability to work collaboratively with others and find common ground, has led me to being an effective councilmember and advocate for our community. I know how to leverage connections that can deliver real, practical solutions for our community.
In 2024, I was honored to be selected as a Global Delegate for the Center for Women & Democracy. My ability to work collaboratively was among the attributes highlighted in my nomination.
As the youngest member of City Council, one of only two renters, and the only Councilmember living west of Highway 16, I will continue to represent all our neighbors' voices and have the community’s best interest at heart.
